You may remember that a few months ago we were made aware of Pontiflex’s new AppLeads mobile ad platform, which granted developers quick and cheap access to potential advertising revenue from their applications. Last week, the same company released its Cost-per-lead Publisher Report for the fourth quarter of 2010, with some of the results stated within it being of high interest to mobile developers.
Chief among the plethora of persuasive figures for integrating ads into mobile software were the average CPMs (cost-per-mille, for those not in the ad game: the revenue earned from an advert being viewed one thousand times) of $79 for mobile application developers as opposed to the $28 average garnered from advertising on the registration page of a website.
Also interesting was the statement that developers of Android applications enjoyed the highest CPMs of all of the mobile developers whose statistics were used in the report (at an average of $102). It was claimed that iPhone developers earned less than half of this, with average CPMs of around $47. This information gives a very contrasting picture to that recently released by Mobclix, a mobile ad analytics service, whose current statistics strongly indicated that Apple still reign with regard to potential profit for app developers.
While the constant struggle between mobile operating systems for the market throne is fun to watch, the most striking concept to take home from the Pontiflex report is how far by which mobile ads for all platforms have overtaken traditional web ads. There is now more incentive than there ever has been for developers to focus on mobile platforms, and it is definitely not something to miss out on.
